Wednesday (20/11) marked a historic day for Institut Ahmad Dahlan Probolinggo (IADPRO) with the successful organization of an International Seminar titled “Islamic Civilization and Its Contribution to Global Peace.” This event brought together experts from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and several academics from partner universities to discuss the role of Islamic civilization in promoting global peace.

The seminar featured two distinguished speakers from UTM, Associate Professor Dr. Mohd. Fauzi bin Abu Hussin and Dr. Dhiyauddin al-Zitawi, alongside three keynote speakers from STIT Muhammadiyah Bojonegoro, Universitas Islam Depok, and STIT Muhammadiyah Kediri: Dr. Ibnu Habibi, M.Pd.I, Dr. M. Syahril, ME., MM, and Bagus Jamroji, Lc., M.Pd.

In his opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Benny Prasetiya, M.Pd.I as IADPRO Rector , emphasized that this seminar represents a tangible step in supporting IADPRO’s internationalization program while enriching students’ knowledge, particularly for those in their final semesters. “The theme is highly relevant, as students hold a strategic role in advancing Islamic civilization and achieving world peace,” he stated. Dr. Benny also expressed gratitude for the international speakers’ contributions, which broadened the participants’ perspectives.

The hybrid seminar was divided into two sessions. During the first session, UTM speakers presented in-depth and practical insights. Associate Professor Dr. Mohd. Fauzi bin Abu Hussin discussed Islamic Moral Economy: Fostering Sustainable Economic Growth through Al-Mizan Development, highlighting that a morality-based Islamic economy has the potential to outperform capitalism by centering on justice, equality, and equilibrium.

Dr. Dhiyauddin al-Zitawi, a Jordanian expert and UTM lecturer, elaborated on Islam’s concept as a religion of peace. “If people truly understand and implement the values of as-salam in Islam, global conflicts such as the Palestine-Israel issue could be resolved,” he asserted. Dr. Dhiyauddin also encouraged students to become agents of peace in their respective roles.

The second session showcased speakers from partner universities. Dr. Ibnu Habibi, M.Pd.I, shared insights on Muhammadiyah Boarding School as a Pioneer Effort for an Educational Institution for Ulama Cadres. Dr. M. Syahril, MM., ME, discussed The Strategic Role of Religious Organizations in Conflict Mediation and Global Peace Diplomacy. Meanwhile, Bagus Jamroji, Lc., M.Pd, explored The Concept of Rahmatan lil ‘Alamin in the Islamic Education Curriculum.

The event, which concluded at 12:30 PM WIB, was attended by students from IADPRO, STIT Muhammadiyah Bojonegoro, Universitas Islam Depok, and STIT Muhammadiyah Kediri, both in person and virtually via Zoom and YouTube. Participants showed great enthusiasm, actively engaging in discussions and Q&A sessions.
